Wonder Woman #1 by Syagria Wonder Woman #1 by Syagria
Photo by Rodney Brown! Taken 06 April 2012.

We walked down to the Boston Public Library for a photoshoot inside, but found it closing just as we approached the doors, so we instead used the exterior architecture as our backdrop. Since I was standing right out on the street (or above it, rather, on a tall stone dais/bench), I was the focus of a LOT of attention! A ton of passersby and tourists stopped to snap shots of me, and I'm pretty sure the entirety of a passing Duckboat, slowing for traffic, did the same.

For those who would like to read about the construction process, my blog of my build threads is located here: [link]

Thanks! It's so odd - I always go to AB and think, "Oh, the Hynes isn't that big, I'm sure I'll see everyone I'm looking for/all the awesome costumes" and then I don't, at all. Sometimes I'll see the same stranger 5 times in one day, and then later online I'll see pictures of fantastic costumes that I never saw anywhere at the con. It's amazing the way that happens.

Woah, that was you! Ack. I wish I knew you better so I would have recognized you. I invited a "normie" friend to sit on my panel (since she's a doctor and I was talking about contact lenses) and you were a huge inspiration to her. She wants to come back next year dressed as Wonder Woman :)

Hah, yep, that was me! And man, I was keeping my eyes open for so many people this weekend, and I saw almost no one I was looking for :( It's weird - in a crowd of 22,000 people, it's not surprising that a person wouldn't randomly run into someone they were keeping an eye out for, but on the other hand, I kept seeing a few people over and over again.

Plus, I admit, when folks are in costume, I don't always recognize them (hey, it's a sign of a good costume, right?). Anyway, glad you and your friend both like the costume - the world needs more Wondies!

Are you going to Nauticon next month?

I totally get what you say about seeing the same people over and over, but missing others entirely. I think the only time I saw you was on Friday, at which time I was dressed as Kagome (yay for easy, comfy costumes LOL). Saturday I devoted to a failed attempt at entering the masq. as Yuna (FFX) with the giant Aeons group--we'll be back next year much better prepared having used this as a dry run. Sunday I wore a Tomoyo (CCS) costume made by and originally belonging to Laura (ChibiRinoa) based on an artbook image.

As for Nauticon, nothing against those running or attending it, but I really am not interested in attending. My ideal 21+ con is a normal con that just happens to not allow minors, not one that flaunts deliberately 21+ content for the majority of their schedule, which I'm getting the feeling Nauticon is doing. Again, noting against that, it's just not my thing.

My next con is BAMcon in Pitsfield, MA May 3-5. Elizabeth and I are running their masquerade. Then it's AnimeNEXT in New Jersey, followed by ConnectiCon where I'm still working Guest Relations. I'll round out the year with Dragon*Con, unless I'm lucky enough to suddenly afford AUSA.

Oh, I'd heard a group had had to drop out of the Masq! :( Sorry to hear that was your group. I don't often attend the Masq, so I didn't see any of it myself.

On Saturday I and my friend were reprising our Kyoshi Warrior costumes, and on Sunday, I did Death from "Sandman" (so I actually didn't wear a single anime or video game costume the whole weekend...).

I know what you mean about the content at Nauticon - I was hoping there'd be more panels trickling in that were more educational. For example, back when they had PAC, there was a great panel showing clips of the lesser-known and experimental animation of Osamu Tezuka that was really fascinating. Drunken parties are great an all, but it would also be nice to have some options for those not looking for non-stop booze and porn. Content aside, I personally would love to see a 21+ con get off the ground - at least give it enough of a boost to make it an annual or biannual event, and then work can be done to develop it into what the attendees really want it to be.

I heard about BAMcon, but that's over Free Comic Book Day, and I always spend that doing appearances for some local comic stores. My next event is Boston Comic Con in two weekends, then FCBD, then Nauticon. I skipped CTcon last year, but I'm thinking I may go this year. I don't have any plans to do any major travels to cons - I did Otakon last year, though. Hopefully I'll get to see you at CTCon, if I make it there!
